5 Things Parents Can Do For Children with Anorexi

When you help your child overcome anorexia, surely there are things you will want to do and some you will not. Let me tell you some things you can do to have a big impact on your daughter's recovery and will make life much easier for you all.

    1. Involve your child in matters not related to eating disorders and keep doing things that has always done, even if his interest has been reduced slightly due to an obsession with food and weight. He needs to see there is life outside of the eating disorder and you need the reminder that as well.

    2. Help distract him at meal times by making it as enjoyable as possible. Talk about your day, especially something funny or positive, and covers the entire family. Have you any good stories to tell and always good for a quick laugh!

    3. If your daughter does not have a passion for something, this is the perfect time to explore. Expressive activities like art, music, and dance are great. If the interest is too limited, as in sports, or exercises that contribute to weight loss, help him explore other things. You can also get the family involved in a worthy cause, because it is a good way to get the focus from himself and eating disorders and to the fact that others have problems too.

    4. When this problem occurs, indicates that you understand that eating disorders are something that the whole family has to deal with and you all need help. When he saw you did not consider himself as a problem child, the guilt will be reduced and this will help in her recovery. There's a thin line here, however. Remember he is very focused on myself right now so if he becomes defensive and respond to it is the problem, it is also. The fact is he did not know what is right now.

    5. If you do have to talk about the food, stay calm and assertive. You fear for your daughter's health can lead to your emotional fuse becomes shorter. It helps to interact from a place of strength, rather than anxiety and helplessness. You are a parent, and it's okay for you to act as if you are not afraid, even when you are. He needs to see you are more powerful than an eating disorder, because now he is convinced that eating disorders have all the power.
