Are Eating Disorders Brain Plasticity Results

What is brain plasticity? And how it related to developing an eating disorder?

Brain plasticity, or neuroplasticity, is the lifelong ability of the brain to change itself based on new experiences. When we say "the brain's ability to change the" we do not mean something mystical or just "spiritual".

What did we mention is the brain's ability to reorganize or rewire the neural pathways that lead to desired or undesired actions or behavior specific. For example, in the case of people suffering from eating disorders are unwanted actions like negative thoughts about their body image that leads to the development in the ED. This can be realized by starvation, or binging and clean overexercising over a period of time.

When people start having bad thoughts and feelings about themselves their brain begin to develop certain new neuronal wiring (or connections) to produce a particular behavior. When people continue to act on the pathological behavior such as starvation, binging-cleaning, etc. is more than exercise: neuronal pathways grow stronger and stronger. Basically this is what you think is what you get.

You see the behavior that we have or regular thoughts we think there are certain brain maps developed and pathways formed. These maps of new brain can begin to take a large amount of space in our brains until they become all powerful. Eating disorders take large amounts of space in the brain because they affect almost every aspect of life of sufferers.

So, when it comes to treatment of eating disorders if it does not work in neurons change the old paths that will not work. What happens is for the sufferer to develop new neural pathways and build them around the old pathological damage that their ED. When you start using the new lines (line healthy) they become stronger and stronger and eventually they will replace the old pathological (a pathological long will fade).

You see, when you realize that it is your brain makes you do things in a way that is damaged, you will understand that in order to create behavioral changes you just need to make your brain works differently. And you can do it by focusing your attention differently when the ED urge strikes you.

Brain's capacity for change does not decrease with age or with duration of problem you have. Many people think that it's easier to stop eating disorders initial disturbance at first appear, and if you have the disorder for years is almost impossible to stop it.

This is not true and completely false. People can stop their eating problems at any stage of the process, because the human brain is plastic and change with repetitive activities we do. Now do not take the effort to change the way you think, but not impossible.

The first thing is to come to the realization that what your brain tells you to do may not be true, so no need to act on it every time. You do not mind your brain and you can influence with the good thoughts and actions.

Your brain is only an organ sitting between your ears. But your mind is what you do, what decision you make, and what perception about yourself that you give to others. Of course this does not mean you have an abnormal brain, only the abnormal thoughts and behavior that has caused you to have ED. It has been proven without doubt that your mind, your conscious behavior and thoughts can change your brain structure.

To conclude, eating disorders are the result of the brain's ability to change its own structure in relation to false actions and thoughts from time to time. Since you have changed your brains wiring to fit a certain pathological behavior in the map of your brain, you have to develop ED. You have responded negatively to certain eating disorder triggers that have been built around you from time to time.

You probably will never develop an eating disorder if you have respond differently to these triggers. For example: if you do not get upset when someone at school called you "fat" or if you do not care when ex-boyfriend dumped you for a thin girl, or similar event. You probably will never have an eating disorder now. But since you do not pay too much attention to it, you have to suffer for a long time.

But not all bad news. The good news is that because your brain is plastic you can change your brain for the better: the same way you change as you developed the faulty pathological behavior in the first place. With focus, attention attentive and by building new neural pathways around a long time, research has shown you can change your brain and hence your ED.

This is the only cure for eating disorders - to change your brain using your mind to reverse the old mindset that makes you into this mess in the first place.
