Emotional Consequences of Eating Disorders

Eating disorders can only be described as hell. They consume every minute of your waking hours in which the sufferer is so caught up in counting calories, reading the back of the package, measuring and weighing food, thinking of when and where they will feast and how it slipped away to throw back everything up.

They eat a piece of cake and then they feel compelled to go for a 10k run to burn the calories they think they've just consumed. Or they swallow laxatives and spent the next 3 hours in the toilet. Or they just put their fingers into the throat and vomiting.

Now you see why this disorder is hell?

Not only that but they are slowly killing themselves and reduce their ages 10 to 20 years. And the really sad thing is they know that they do it but could not stop.

Reaction of most people is to anorexia just start eating again with comments such as 'eat eat just idiots'. Or for bulimics to stop binging and clean up what's so hard about it, do this and everything will be fine. But I hope it's that simple, but it does not.

You see the ED is a deep psychological problems who live in the subconscious mind of patients and it really has nothing to do with food. Food is only a symptom of the disorder, in a way that people feel they have some kind of control in their lives. Certainly in the beginning for these patients may have occurred, but in the end they control 100% ED. It determines everything they do or say and control them with an iron fist.

For your casual readers may not understand how that could happen to someone and it is difficult for you to think of reasons why. But it could be caused by many things even something as simple as the so-called fat at school. Or just want to shed a few pounds to look better or may become violent episodes in their lives such as sexual violence or verbal abuse. It could even be as simple as not getting enough love and attention from their parents. No matter what the cause is, for these patients is very real.

I've been told by many ED sufferers that they like getting on an escalator, you know that you are on it but you can not find a way off. This is because you are so totally consumed by your ED has become a slave to it.

I will make it very clear, if you know someone with ED and then realize that they can not just stop itself. It would be like you are trying to stop breathing the air, can not be done.

So what to do? Well either way that really works is to find self-help program that will handle all the things that stop patients with ED of getting better. One is related to problems with the way a sympathetic and non-confrontational in which sufferers know that they are in a safe environment.

Emotional consequences can be eased by finding a program to help themselves better if someone would understand and accept that he / she has a problem. If the person denies the problem he / she may need to find additional help from a reliable source.
